This week on Very High Frequencies it's all about James Osterberg Jr. When Junior started up a band called The Iguanas fans started calling him Iggy. Soon he became Iggy Stooge fronting The Stooges. After they imploded from too much monkey business Uber fanboy David Bowie scraped Iggy out of the gutter and recorded his first couple of albums in West Berlin, releasing The Idiot and Lust For Life both in 1977. With a strong foundation Iggy went solo recording a wide variety of albums while simultaneously  acting in Hollywood movies as a known celebrity Rock' n roller. VHF dissects the essence of Iggyness this week with tracks throughout his career including a special emphasis on his brand new album Every Loser. At 75 years young the guy won't stop! Hear songs about partying, songs about issues with the needle and songs about girls. Sex and drugs and Iggy Pop! It's VHF-142 (Iggy Pop).

This episode on Very High Frequencies there's been a report of a large monster in New Jersey. We don't know which exit it's at but the entire area is highly magnetized. It's Monster Magnet ripping through the space time continuum and distorting reality with sound wave manipulation.  Remixes, covers, heavy deep cuts and old faves get there due this episode on VHF-141 (Monster Magnet).

This epsiode of Very High Frequencies invites you to "Party Like A Rockstar" at the world famous 27 Club.
Alternative artists & bands like The Cure, Patti Smith, Ministry,  Sinead O'Connor, Fear Factory, The Sisters Of Mercy & more pay tribute to some of their favorite late influential artists. We mix it up with a bunch of originals by a who's who of sadly deceased twenty-seven year old musicians, forever part of the notorious Urban Legend. Many are so famous they only need a first or last name to be recognized. Jimi, Janis, Jim, Kurt, Amy, and let's not forget honorary Hell's Angel, Grateful Dead's hard drinking Pigpen. The Rolling Stones Brian Jones is the rare death under mysterious circumstances as a bonifide card carrying member of the 27 Club. VHF bestows extra special coolness upon the late great Echo & The Bunnymen drummer Pete DeFreitas, both as a 27 Club member, (900 cc Ducati motorcycle accident) as well as playing drums on covers of a couple songs by other 27 Clubbers.
To all the 27 Clubbers, gone too soon but not forgotten, VHF Salutes you!

With 5 albums, a few EP's & deep cut digital downloads, we scale the highest peaks of Canadian Psych Rockers Black Mountain. If we must define their sound in two words or less, I would say: Punk Floyd. Crank it up, these cats rock hard, eh!

Very High Frequencies blasts psychic exorcisms and societal rage from heavy music innovator, the late great Dawn Crosby. From '83--'86 Dawn fronted politically charged Thrash Metal outfit Detente, releasing Recognize No Authority in 1986. Today it is widely accepted as a classic in the genre.Upon the bands implosion Dawn created Goth Metal band Fear Of God, releasing debut album, Within The Veil, in '91. Pummeling follow up, Toxic Voodoo, came out in '94. A 3 song cassette only release, Killing The Pain, was released in '95. Sadly Dawn Crosby passed away in 1996 from acute liver failure, the Rock and roll lifestyle had caught up to her. She was 33 years old. Listen and you will surely understand why Dawn Crosby is so highly regarded in metal circles for her emotionally powerful vocals and often brutally honest lyrical contributions. Dawn does not sing about fantasy tropes like Wizards and Warlocks; she sings about betrayal and rage. She screams in pain of tales of Addiction, Prostitution, serial killers, and the dangers of getting lost in the Drift. VHF-137 (Dawn Crosby), a show for anyone that appreciates original heavy music.
RIP Dawn, thanks for all the really real music.
