Episode 289: Danzig

VHF-289 (Danzig) examines the first seven Danzig albums released between 1988 to 2002.

After fronting the Misfits and Samhain Glen Danzig formed a band under his stage name. Initially in league with producer Rick Ruben, the group played a traditional heavy metal style for the first few albums but slowly morphed towards a more industrial metal sound, perhaps influenced by the popularity of bands like Nine Inch Nails. 

Glen Danzig has a dark persona. Usually shirtless, with long flowing black hair, he created an image that fans could appreciate. Channeling Jim Morrison and an evil Elvis vocally, Danzig had roots in traditional rock music but tried to be spooky. Some of the album titles reflect the mindset of their creator.
Satanic references are often used and the Bible is also a source for inspiration. 

Very High Frequencies has pulled together some of the best songs that the band released. Not Dead Yet Mike has chosen some of the bigger MTV era hits from albums 1-3 and some interesting songs from the later albums as well. With album titles such as Danzig 777: I Luciferi and Danzig 666:Satan’s Child mainstream alternative music listeners did not line up in droves. Regardlessly there were some decent songs on the later albums and this is your opportunity to check them out!
